Will Blogging Fade with Rap Music July 29th, 2010 by Kissie Leave a reply »
i said a hip hop the hippie the hippie
to the hip hip hop, a you dont stop
the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie
to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat
now what you hear is not a test–i’m rappin to the beatI will never forget when I first heard this on the radio. Although I was grooving to the King of Pop’s Off the Wallmore than anything else my freshman year in college, it was something about this “new” music. I remember asking my friends if they heard the song that sounded like they were singing but they were actually talking. How funny that observation is to me now. Well of course the debates started and I was one of the ones who said that mess wouldn’t last too long.
I’ve never been a BIG fan of rap music but some rappers have entertained me to no end. I love the clever ones, the ones who make valid points and have a positive message. I even fancied a few of the funnier ones as well….don’t ask me to name them because I can’t remember. I liked them when I liked them.
When I assess my blogging skills compared to some of my blogging comrades, I begin to get a little depressed and tell myself to give it up. But, I have to remind myself to not COMPLAIN, COMPARE, or COMPETE because I will lose the joy blogging brings. This is something I do for pleasure not obligation or business. I like to hang with the big boys as it were, the bloggers in my communities are SERIOUS bloggers – they use all of the blogging terms, tools, tricks, and tips whereas I don’t really give a flip.
So instead of assessing my blogging skills, I decided to assess the reason I blog and what it’s worth. My good friend, John, you remember him … told me that I wasn’t a real blogger because I post one day a week. He said it was like a vacation for me. (That dude makes me laugh often and that’s not easy to do.) My other friend, you all know her, Queen B – Miss Ileane, says it’s a stupid rule to post once a week. Hmm, she has street cred with me so she can say whatever she wants to … I suggest you not try that.
I got the once a week idea from another what I consider “real” blogger, Hal. He didn’t suggest I do it, but he told me his blogging day and I thought to myself I can commit to ONE day a week too. (That’s why you can’t share your business with too many people, you’ll get all kinds of feedback until you don’t know what to do!)
I digress, when my assessing crossed over to stressing … I asked myself what will my blogging efforts matter in ten years? Will anybody even care? Who will benefit from it? What is the true profit? I was wrong about the rap genre as you can see because if I had known then what I know now ….I would be a retired MC Just Kissie!
What do you think? Will the exciting aspect of blogging fade? What will supersede this current trend of social media? I refuse to make another prediction, but I do know what I say today should be worth something ten years from now … treasure yourself because I do.

LinkLuv from my BFF!
I was looking at the comment section of my theme and thought I change gravatar size in thematic comments. Why? I love big avatars and I want to see everyone’s lovely faces. And me being graphic and all, I love details. So if you ever drop a comment in my blog, be sure to wear your best gravatar, so people can easily remember you. Hey, I didn’t make my comment section do follow for no reason, you know :) Take advantage of gravatar size in thematic comments by using a logo
Now this is your chance to showcase your brand identity when you comment, so those who read it can have a clear idea of what you represent. Miss Ileane made a great post about Establish Branding For Your Blog With A Gravatar and how you can build your online reputation with it. Sometimes when we see a logo, the first thing that comes to mind is that it symbolizes an establishment group that means serious business. And we wont be able to see that inside 36 x 36 pixels which is the default gravatar size in thematic comments. This tutorial will teach you how to changeit to 80 x 80 pixels. It can be any size from 1 to 512.
Import default.css from Thematic parent themeNow before we go straight to the style.css in changing our gravatar size in thematic comments, we check if we have imported the stylesheet of our Parent Theme where it contains the css code for the thematic comments.
print? Modify style.css in child theme to change gravatar size in thematic commentsNow we want to change gravatar size in thematic comments, so we copy this code from the Thematic default.css and paste it to our child theme style.css.
print? The other attributes included are the codes you might need to change as well like author name, comments, etc.. I can change the gravatar size in thematic comments to 512 pixels if I want to but I dont want to have stalkers going after your beautiful face because of me :)

Nice one LaTease! I didn’t know you posted this. Thanks.
Yeah I thought it was some spam thing and deleted them.
Nope.
Yep. What a bargain. So, that’s one lung, a kidney, half a liver …
yea I got that email, I thought it was a hoax. Who would actually consider paying THAT much??
Sensi, that was my very thought. Glad I was not the only one who thought it was a scam. Is there a way to notify BlogCatalog about this?
they’ll probably see this thread, but on the other hand it’d be hilarious if it wasn’t a scam. Then they’d be all looked at as idiots for such a ridiculous package *laughs*
Apparently real: www.blogcatalog.com/recognition
O.M.GAWWWWWD LMAO, I knew this would be hilarious. The things people do to get blog popularity is beyond my understanding.
apparently (at least) 10 people bought it
yea, just got a BC email stating those that already purchased it. Whackos…
comment removed by the community.
Well, that explains it all quite nicely. Where do I sign up?
I’ve heard of that, never signed up but I know of many bloggers that like it. It seems to be picking up in popularity too. I’m still too lazy to join tho…
heeey, and I know their “Blogger of the week”! I feel like I know a celebrity or something lol
That color scheme could kill my sight. Too much light text against a light background.
yea, and on some areas of the site the text is too small. Also, the site doesn’t fit my screen … got the stupid bottom scroll bar…(on Blogger Luv
)
tony just owned you
owned who?

comments removed, AND banned.
I’d say less owned and more like censorship. Pfft, reminds me of what Soviet Union did back in the day or what communist china is doing now…sunnyboy…
Now I know what to do if I want my account closed
LOL true
and all she/he did was promote www.notblogcatalog.com
It’s real and designed for members who want more from their blog than they could have imagined possible, in 3 months.
10 spots have been taken. 24 left. With 10 bloggers and the focus on the BC team and the coaching and placements and promotion from blogcatalog, the bloggers who are signed up and any others that do, will receive tremendous value.
BC is free. Yet with 5 million visitors a month, a large number of PR firms visiting the site to find great blog, book publishers doing the same, this opportunity is going to appeal to a specific group of bloggers who are passionate about being the best at what they do.
They are also providing us with the opportunity to remove more ads from the site, so that we can promote all quality bloggers and blogs. Thanks to them, there will be more room to do this. And as the owner of BlogCatalog I will do whatever it is to provide the 24 to a place of exposure and readership that they never dreamed possible.
The 10 bloggers who have already signed up have outstanding blogs. Truly the type of blogs that makes promoting their work and working with them to improve their blogs a joy for me and the BC team.
Whatever traffic they are receiving now, and exposure they have, by the time the 3 months is up, they will be at a different level in blogging. In August, we will be launching a Reader, that opens up your content to millions more readers. The participants in this program will benefit in the reader launch for being the first 24 in the Blogger Recognition Program.
There are 24 spots remaining. Ads have been removed from the site. If you are interested in signing up, go to www.blogcatalog.com/recognition
Here’s a copy of the most recent email along with the members who have signed up:
Having a community driven site has turned into a big cause and success. In just 4 hours, 10 bloggers signed up for the Blogger’s Recognition Package. Their investment, and commitment to quality, will pay off with more exposure and more readership than ever before.
Better yet, their support means that we can keep the site up and running by promoting bloggers, not ads. Our cause is to make BlogCatalog the first ever bloggers-driven site. The more community support we have, the closer we are to making that happen.
Blogger’s We Want to RecognizeLastly, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank the following members for being so quick in supporting our cause to become a blogger driven community. We would also like to point out the quality that each of these bloggers brings to our site. Your work is oustanding.

I can say for a fact, that there is no more valuable program to a serious blogger than the one that we will provide. The group is small enough and blogcatalog powerful enough to take them and their blog to the next level.
I think alls’ we’re saying is it’s a ridiculous price. But it’s okay if it makes people feel better…and they have nothing better to do with their money….
There we go. An announcement thread with all that text would’ve been nice, in addition to the e-mail … and perhaps an info page that doesn’t require logging in.
@sensi, it depends on a blogger’s objectives. It may not make sense of you though for other’s there are other outcomes. Many blogs make more than that a month. If that’s your goal. If your goal is to get published, exposure and traffic to your blog, can increase book sales.
@Friday13, good thinking. Next time we will. It didn’t occur to me that it required loging in. Appreciate the feedback.
The team we have now is really good and my goal is to make sure that we stay focused on you guys and be community driven. The BRP enables us to do just that. Build deeper connections, create more successful bloggers (however each blogger defines success), move away from dependence on google and launch bc 2.01.0, which will include a way for you to charge for content. (if you want.)
