Ileane: Wow, that’s a hard one. I have a ton of really great blogging memories….
Back when I was still blogging on WordPress.com I knew I wanted to migrate over to self-hosted WordPress. I really struggled with the decision about keeping my old blog name or finding a new domain name. I knew that I had to find the right domain name that had SEO value and really represented what the blog was going to be about. I spent about 2 weeks thinking about names and changing my mind back and forth, until finally it actually hit me one day when I was in the car driving to work. Basic Blog Tips! I couldn’t wait to get to work and turn on my computer so I could check to see if the domain was taken. Oh how I prayed that domain wasn’t taken. As soon as I got to work, I looked the name up and when I saw that it was available I was ecstatic! So I guess if I had to pick one special moment I would say, that was it. Finding the perfect domain name was really a joyous day.

I’m really glad you asked that question because I never  thought about it that way until now.

. Include Keywords

It’s well worth including some simple, high impact keywords which relate to your blog subject – even if you’re not thinking about attracting search engine traffic at this point. A couple of examples:

Ana Hoffman’s TrafficGenerationCafe

Ileane Smith’s BasicBlogTips

In each case, their blog name (and URL – see point 5 below) includes a keyphrase – ‘Traffic Generation’ and ‘Blog Tips’ or ‘Basic Blog Tips’

Another blogger you may know (and if you don’t you’re missing out!) is Ms. Ileane from Basic Blog Tips who now is experimenting with an audioboo based micro-podcast athttp://audioboo.fm/MsIleaneSpeaks. Subscribing to her podcast (put this address in your podcast app, not in Google reader) would be a great way to get a super lightweight sample of podcasts. Be sure to tell her I said Hey Boo!

Take a lesson from bloggers like Ileane Smith of BasicBlogTips.comand Brankica Underwood of Blog Like a Star.  Both are very well-known in their spaces and will probably tell you they’ve built the majority of their following through social media.

Hi Ana, I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but I just wanted to add a tip.
I found Tumblr blogs for popular sites like Fast Company and The Next Web and all of their posts have high PR. So I just look for posts that don’t have a lot of “notes” and reblogged those. It’s also a quick way to find some other “Tumblrs” that have also reblogged or liked these posts and then I can check to see if they have high PR’s too.

I’m using this to build some links for my lonely podcasting blog that needs some help. Thanks for sharing!

• Tumblr appears to be a combination of Facebook and a webpage – you can post text, video, audio, links and photos.
• It is also possible to post a chat all from one easy interface.
• Additionally, you are able to repost blogs which makes it easier to maintain a social presence across multiple platforms.
• Tumblr allows more than just the 140 characters of Twitter, which in turn is perfect for posting short quotes from longer articles and including links to those articles.
